When does it end?

In case you haven't read it, I would highly recommend everyone who may stumble upon this blog to read Newt's newsletter for this week. It's heading is "Enough is Enough: While Washington Vacations, a War Rages Here at Home." Sure, I maybe be a little biased towards Newt because I'm a member of DraftNewt.org, but I believe he's hit the bull's eye.

The fight over Immigration has been going on for years now, with the most recent battle fought not too long ago with the "Comprehensive Immigration Bill." The bill had some pros, but many cons to it. But it looks like the defeat of this bill hasn't stopped the ferocity of the battle. Some steps are being made, but a recent shooting of 4 students in New Jersey shows the urgency of which the system must be fixed.

As you may or may not have heard, the criminal identified is an Illegal Aliens. In his newsletter, Speaker Gingrich has called for the President to call a special session of Congress, in which a fix to this problem is solved. Newt proposes that Congress passes a law that requires a real-time identification system by 2008 to identify who is legal and who is not. Part 2 of the bill would require a citizenship test on any who are charged with a felony. If any political division decides not to comply, whether it be state, county, or city, they lose all federal aid. The 4th part would prohibit releasing an illegal alien criminal into the American public. And finally, all who are currently in prison are screened for citizenship status.

The way I look at this, this should be a no-brainer, and could present major problems with anyone who might possibly oppose such legislation. This does not solve illegal immigration, but this is necessary legislation to start us on the right pass. President Bush is already starting on another front, with businesses and penalties for those who knowingly hire illegal immigrants. You hear people on the left complain that there are illegals here that do good. But the kind like these, and many other examples (i.e. New Jersey Bomb Plot), are not those. It's one thing to be breaking the law by being here. But to have the nerve to come in here illegally and kill our own people?

Enough is enough. Support Newt's proposal, and help take these criminals off the street and out of our country. Immigration was part of President Bush's campaign platform. This would be a great way to get on it.

Summer's End

Well, Summertime's about left us. I'm done with my summer activities and look forward to putting up a new blog post either later this week or sometime next week. This has become one busy summer. Hope everyone enjoyed it!

Finally!

Well, as you may have heard by now, it's over. President Bush has finally granted clemency to Scooter Libby. He no longer has to serve the unjust prison sentence for doing nothing, left with only the fine and probation period. Of course, nothing President Bush does is good in the eyes of the Democrats, so here's you a link to all the things many people have said about it. While some in this article are happy about it, it looks like every single Democrat mentioned absolutely abhors it. Whodathunkit? Here it is.

Scooter Libby was convicted of perjury a while back because he made a few questionable statements as to where he heard Valerie Plame's name. That's it. Maybe before the real leaker, Richard Armitage, was revealed, this might have been a serious case of a cover up. But they continued to press on even after finding out who it was that exposed Valerie Plame. But I'm left to wonder a few things.
  • The source of the leak may have been known to some officials in 2003. The Special Prosecutor knew when he was assigned that Armitage was the leaker, yet pressed on. Why? Another thing, has Armitage been punished yet for his crimes? I've not heard of anything nor have I found anything yet on the internet.
  • Also, was Plame a "covert agent?" Looking at the definition here (covert agent is defined at the bottom), I don't think so. Unless my memory is ill-serving, she did not work overseas, and was not working with FBI in counter-terrorism or counter-surveillance. I'm fairly confident that covert and classified are different statuses.
  • And: Scooter Libby got convicted for perjury for (probably inadvertently) saying the wrong name as to where he heard Plame's name. Plame testified that she was covert. If she does not meet that definition, where's the perjury charge?
There are some other things I'm left to wonder. There are some things I'm unsure of, as I've noted throughout this entry, but I am fairly sure of one thing. Scooter Libby was the wrong person to convict in this case. Is role in the leak was irrelevant and should have never came to trial and he should have never been convicted. But there are others that probably should have.

Surprising Polls

I took a glance at realclearpolitics.com just a few minutes ago and was really quite surprised. President Bush has long been scarred by low poll numbers, but the RCP average has gone up since the last time I remember checking, unless my memory serves me incorrectly. I recall looking and seeing Congress tied with the President at 29%, though it could have 31% or something close to that. But now I can just forget that poll, because things are different now. President Bush is at 32% in the RCP average. And Congress? 25.5%! That's right, Congress is now, on average, listed as 6.5% lower than the President. They claim they were elected to fix things in Washington, but their approval rating is now LOWER than the Republican Congress's approval rating around the time of the election (a Fox News poll from 11/4 - 11/5 showed it with 29%). If Congress continues to waste the money of the people who elected them to rename Post Offices and pass meaningless resolution that they even acknowledge will have no effect on anything, their majority will be short-lived. If Republicans decide to go on the offense and defend the Conservative values that put them there for 12 good years, there is no reason they can't capitalize on this opportunity and regain majority status. Not just for the sake of the Republican Party, but for the sake of America.

Another interesting thing to point out: RCP also shows McCain BEATING Clinton now, on average. Granted, there is only a 0.8% spread, but this is showing the gaining Republican momentum against the undeserving Democrats. Until recently, the only Red win overall on RCP was Rudy vs. Hillary. This has now changed. Rudy not only beats Hillary now, but he also beats Obama, on average. McCain beats not only Hillary now, but also John Edwards. Another sign of Republican gains is the first Romney victory in ANY poll to date against a Democrat. An LA Times/Bloomberg poll gives Mitt Romney a +2% victory against Hillary Clinton.

Seeing these polls give us insight to what could possibly happen. If asked 2 months ago, a large majority of Americans would have said it is impossible for Republicans to win the White House in 2008. These polls suggest that things have changed, and a Republican win is not impossible. It will still be a close battle, but if we stick to our values, the Republicans will have recuperated from what seemed to be a horrible sickness inherited from 2006.

Just a thought...

I don't have my normal laptop anymore and don't get my replacement until the second week of July, so there's probably going to be a temporary pause in updating the podcast. But I continue to do some writing. I was listening to some sound bites from the Democratic Presidential debate the other day, and, though I don't remember the whole quote, one particular thing was from Hillary Clinton..."Bush started this war."
And this is not the first time she's made these comments. And as I hear things such as this, I began to wonder...does Hillary Clinton know about the Constitution? The Dems all too often complain that the Constitution provides a system of checks and balances, but you can't blame President Bush for their lack of understanding that he can't do much at all except head the Executive Branch of the U.S. to enforce the laws and carry out diplomacy. If Hillary Clinton would read the 8th section of the first article of the U.S. Constitution, it plainly states that Congress declares war and makes appropriations for the army and navy and it is the Congress that maintains them. As Commander in Chief, it is President Bush's job to head that Army that the Congress provides. If the Democrats oppose the war so badly, stop it. That's where they can check and balance the President, but they're too scared to because it might hurt them in 2008.
Another interesting thing that I heard was Hillary bashing the President with a "joke" about how the Bush Administration doesn't know what Diplomacy is, occasionally decide to send the Secretary of State or the Vice President to satisfy people. Well...if it's not diplomacy that the Secretary of State, who is responsible for taking care of the foreign affairs and diplomacy issues of the nation, what is? Another point: Has Hillary forgotten the negotiations breakthroughs with the North Koreans? Or the recent meeting with Iran with the U.S. Ambassador to Iraq? Those are just to name a few. You can NOT blame the President if the OTHER end of the agreement falls through. I just wonder...if working on agreements with enemy nations to try to get them to stop their renegade programs isn't diplomacy, what is? This only proves another point: diplomacy doesn't always work.
But what do I know.

Debates & Headlines

Greetings everyone, and welcome to this edition of the Hawks Press. It’s been an action-packed two weeks in the political arena and there’s much to be discussed, which I’ll try to run through today.
First thing I want to talk about is the Republican Presidential debates. If you watched both debates, it was rather easy to tell the difference between the one on MSNBC and Fox News. Even between the types of questions MSNBC asked the Democrats were extremely different from the ones they asked the Republican candidates. Did Tom from Minnesota ask Barak Obama the difference between a Sunni and a Shia muslim? (Could Obama have answered it like Rudy?) There’s no question that the Fox News debate was more reasonable, covered more topics, and didn’t pick on certain candidates. It didn’t try to give all of the glory to one candidate, and it didn’t put certain candidates in an unnecessary pickle.
Also from the Fox News debate, I believe many would agree that Rudy Guiliani killed any chance Ron Paul may or may not of had at getting the Primary Nomination. Rudy was very strong on what he is strong in: National Defense. He is always the first to tell you the many success he had as New York City Mayor and how defense needs an even higher priority to prevent others from going through what he went through.
Another headline that caught my eye was of Jimmy Carter’s remarks attacking Bush, even worse than previous statements from himself and other members of his party. Jimmy Carter called President Bush the worst President in History. To be fair, though, he was talking with regards to foreign policy. I guess Jimmy Carter forgot he was, at one time, President, as well.
To make a quick brush with some other things, the Democrat-controlled Congress failed to cut off war funds. Pro-American Nicolas Sarkozy won the French Presidential election, despite the feeling that a liberal transition was imminent. The Senate has drafted a bipartisan Immigration Reform bill, that may or may not grant the current illegals Amnesty, depending on who you ask. Chuck Schumer and Senate Democrats are yet again wanting to waste more of our tax-payers money by wasting time on a vote of No-Confidence on Attorney General Alberto Gonzales because of a constitutional right of the President to appoint and dismiss U.S. Attorney at his pleasure.
And, surprisingly, that’s not all that’s happened these past weeks. I would like to invite you to send us an email at hawkspress@yahoo.com with anything you might like to tell us or criticize us over. Remember that you can check out transcripts of all of our podcasts at friendsforconservatism.blogspot.com. Thank you for listening this week and be sure to tune in next time and tell your friends about us.

Sunday, May 6, 2007

Welcome again to the Hawks Press. This week I’m going to stray off the topic of the Iraq War and focus instead on 2008. Whether you’ve realized it or not, 2008 is going to be one of the most important election years of our time. It will be an election to determine whether or not America can withstand the test of time. As it stands, we are currently faced with many, many difficult issues that leave us more divided than any other time in history, except for the Civil War era. We have to deal with illegal immigration, health care, social security, and, most importantly, the war on Islamo-Fascism.

Sadly, we’re not going to be able to solve any of them in the current state of affairs. That is what makes 2008 such a dire year. As you may or may not know, I am a strong supporter of a Newt Gingrich presidency. Why? Because I truly believe that, out of all the candidates, Newt is the brightest, most competent, and most solution-oriented and he most certainly fills that true-conservative gap many on the right are looking for. As Steve Parkhurst, the Campaign Manager for DraftNewt.org, which I am a member, said in a recent interview with me, “I think Newt, with his knowledge of world history, has a vision and a knack for finding not just the problems, but the solutions, to some of the biggest issues of our time. I appreciate his intellect and his wit. Though I would add, that Newt didn't recently come to conservatism, he has always been a voice for everyone who wants America to be a place where everyone has a chance to succeed with limited government interference.” And that is exactly what we need.

You listen to the Democratic Party, and what do you hear? I hear an identification of problems and criticisms of how they are currently being tackled. Rather, Newt tackles the problems with solutions. And for proof, you can look back to 1994, when he led the Republican Revolution with the Contract with America. And for the younger ones, such as myself, that weren’t old enough to know or care about it, we can look to what he’s doing now.

Newt has been participating in bipartisan debates, free of moderators with 30 second time limits so that solutions can come out of ideas. He’s founded American Solutions, which had its first major showing earlier in a 90-minute debate with Mario Cuomo, a former Democratic governor of New York, where both were given 30 minutes to give their ideas and then a 30 minute question and answer session. More recently, he participated in a debate with John Kerry on climate change, where he introduced the idea of Green Conservatism, which we all can feel comfortable.

The very fate of America may very well hinge on the outcome of the 2008 elections. That is why I put my support in Newt, providing ideas and solutions to save America. You can look at the Contract with America, his September 27th Solutions Day workshops, or at his book Winning the Future for proof of this. Thank you for listening today. I encourage you to send us your questions, comments, or anything else to hawkspress@yahoo.com and visit our blogspot at friendsforconservatism.blogspot.com, where you can look at transcripts of our podcasts and my recent interview with Steve Parkhurst of DraftNewt.org. Thank you, and good night.

Hello everybody! I recently managed to send a few questions to the Campaign Manager of DraftNewt.org (of which I am a member), Steve Parkhurst. Here you go ;)

Q: First of all, tell me about DraftNewt.org.
DraftNewt.org is the website and blog portion of the overall Draft Newt '08 movement. Our movement has blossomed to a great grassroots presence and the website/blog is an online gathering portion of that presence. DraftNewt.org is a blog for everyone to participate in and we always have great links to youtube videos, facebook and myspace pages and other interesting news as it relates to Newt.
Q:
How did you manage to get your position with the movement and what exactly do you do?
I got the position by literally being a lifelong fan of Newt Gingrich and getting involved with the Draft Newt movement early on. When the original founder of Draft Newt found himself overwhelmed with the positive response to Draft Newt, he needed to hand it off to someone who was as devoted as he was. I am the National Chairman for Draft Newt '08 which basically means I am a campaign manager on a national level. I coordinate with all of our leaders across the country, and some of those overseas, to make sure things are getting done that further our cause. I also work to make sure all those leaders have the things they need to be successful.
Q: I know there are many, but give me some reasons why you think Newt should be our next President?
I think Newt, with his knowledge of world history, has a vision and a knack for finding not just the problems, but the solutions, to some of the biggest issues of our time. I appreciate his intellect and his wit.
Q: What can you tell me about the size and awareness level of the movement?
We are growing everyday and we have volunteers all over the country and even some overseas.
Q: Are there any trends that you have noticed between the people that have joined and where they are from? That is, does there seem to be certain geographic areas where membership and activity seems to be concentrated?
I have been pleasantly surprised that we have had folks from all over the country, and even overseas, who believe in Newt and this movement. There is not one particular region more popular than the other.
Q: What is DraftNewt planning to do if/when Speaker Gingrich announces his candidacy?
We will hand over our information to the Newt Gingrich folks and they can do with it what they like. We will have prospective e-captains, activists, fundraisers, students and workers ready to go for Newt should he get into the race. Then we will all get to work, as a team, to elect Newt President.
Q: What, in your opinion, makes the Speaker stand out and tower above the other candidates?
Like from a previous question, I think Newt, with his knowledge of world history, has a vision and a knack for finding not just the problems, but the solutions, to some of the biggest issues of our time. I appreciate his intellect and his wit. Though I would add, that Newt didn't recently come to conservatism, he has always been a voice for everyone who wants America to be a place where everyone has a chance to succeed with limited government interference.
Q: What kind of things is DraftNewt doing to spread the word and build support?
We are advertising on the internet. We also have some Draft Newt fliers on our website that people are posting in coffee shops or on campuses and places like that. Once we get people to the website, they get signed up and we get them in contact with the Draft Newt leader in their area.
Q: Is DraftNewt affiliated with other websites or with anyone in particular?
No. Draft Newt is one of a kind.
Q: Without getting into the amount and sizes of contributions, what do you do, if I may ask, with the donations?
We take care of our internet site fees first. After that, we do web advertising and that sort of thing. We have not spent most of our money, though there were some fees involved with getting started.
Q: What are your plans for DraftNewt and what do you intend on doing to further increase and expand the movement’s reach?
I plan to have solid teams built all across America so that if Newt gets in the Presidential race later this year, he will have a team of volunteers ready to work so that on January 20, 2009 Newt Gingrich is sworn in as President Newt Gingrich. We have radio time reserved in certain markets and we plan to continue to be a presence.
Q: Do you have members from all 50 states? Which one(s) seem to have the most?
Yes we do have people in all 50 states.
Like from an earlier question, I have been pleasantly surprised that we have had folks from all over the country, and even overseas, who believe in Newt and this movement. There is not one particular region more popular than the other.
Q:
Any celebration plans if Newt is successful in 2008?
America will celebrate if Newt becomes President.
Q: What kind of advertising products and merchandise do you have or plan on working on for the movement?
We have a Cafe Press store where a person can get just about anything. We do plan to carry our own line of t-shirts and bumper stickers soon. We might add additional products based on demand.
Q: Is there anything else you would like to say? Any questions you think others might ask that you might want to answer?
We are open to everybody who wants to get involved. There is something for everyone, we are more than just a website. Folks who want to help us reach a wider audience are invited to contribute to Draft Newt though DraftNewt.org where they can use PayPal or a secure credit card system. This helps us insure that Ideas Today become Solutions Tomorrow. Thank you for your time.

And thank you for your time, Steve ;) Steve has also had various other interviews, including http://2008central.net/?p=428 and http://www.cqpolitics.com/2007/05/gingrich_remains_a_speaker_but.html#more I'll be back tomorrow with a new podcast ready to be uploaded. Until next time!

Who Are We?

“Who are we?”

Hello my friends and welcome to the Hawks Press. There wasn’t an update last week, as you probably know, due to various reasons. Before I begin, I would like to offer my prayers to everyone affected by the recent Virginia Tech tragedy and say that everyone shares the pain.

I would like to talk today about some of the recent statements you might have heard from talk radio, TV, blogs, and various other sources that go back to something I said in an earlier podcast. In referring to the Democrats trying to get an Emergency War Spending Bill loaded with billions of dollars in pork and hurtful timelines that would ultimately kill the chances of success in Iraq. “So they can win the White House in 2008.”

"I believe myself that the secretary of state, secretary of defense and -- you have to make your own decisions as to what the president knows -- [know] this war is lost and the surge is not accomplishing anything as indicated by the extreme violence in Iraq yesterday,” the undeserving Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid stated Thursday. Of course, we all know Harry Reid is a brilliant military genius who has the greatest plan for Iraq.

If you haven’t been paying attention, Harry Reid and Chuck Schumer have finally confirmed what I’ve been saying. “We’re going to pick up Senate seats as a result of this war.” For those who attack Republicans for saying the Democrats are only looking after their chances in 08 and not looking after our soldiers, you’ve just lost your argument. It may just be one of my conspiracy theories that Democrats are going to do whatever it takes to make this war a defeat for America, a failure for George Bush, and a victory for the Islamic-Fascists to regain total control of Washington again, but when you here these statements, it appears to be more than just a conspiracy theory, more than just a theory. It appears to be true.

Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich wrote about Harry Reid’s statements in his recent Winning the Future newsletter, which I highly recommend if you have not yet subscribed to it. Quote: “This is not a sentiment--and these are not words—worthy of the leadership of a great nation.” Unquote. I’ll tell you what it is: despicable. Let’s look at another recent development.

[play audio clip of Jack Murtha about “we are not fighting this war”]

That was Jack Murtha’s response to statements Pete Hoekstra made about fighting the War on Terror. When I first heard of those statements listening to Mark Levin’s radio show, I couldn’t seem to be able to think of how anyone could take Congressman Hoekstra’s remarks to mean “we” as in the Congress. Apparently Jack Murtha doesn’t realize that WE are a nation and WE share in the fight, whether we are there or not. WE are proud of our service men and women and what they do, and it’s idiots like Murtha, Reid, and Schumer who don’t seem to get it.

I’ll go ahead and get it out of the way: Harry Reid should resign, and John Murtha needs to shut up. Mark Levin said it best: Harry Reid is a Traitor and has committed Treason. Levin used those two words, and I’m repeating them. Traitor: A person who betrays another. Treason: The betrayal of a trust or confidence; treachery. By publicly admitting that he’s playing with the War to pick up Senate seats and declaring that, despite what our troops on the ground and what our generals are reporting, the war is lost, he has betrayed our troops and stabbed them in the back. He is allowing the funds to be put off and is using slow bleed tactics to weaken our own army. He has given the enemy reason to celebrate by saying “You have won and have defeated the greatest nation God gave to man.” He has betrayed the trust the military has put in the Congress to give it the funding necessary to continue on the road to success. But they don’t care. They’re going to pick up Senate seats because of this war--can’t let anything change that. If you think people like Sean Hannity are just paranoid or overreacting saying that the Democrats are “invested in defeat,” listen to them now and tell me they’re not. If you can honestly say they are not investing in defeat, your name just might be Harry Reid.

By the way, the last bit of Jack Murtha’s statements says “they have won the war, the mission was accomplished.” This is strange in the fact that immediate sentence after that is “we cannot when it militarily, we can only win it diplomatically.”...The troops have won but we cannot win militarily? Well, that’s a bit of an odd statement, even more confusing when Harry Reid says we’ve LOST the war.

Before I leave, I would like to give kudos to Senator John McCain. McCain has long been a strong supporter for the War and he just may be able to do what George Bush hasn’t been able to do: change American opinion about the war. I love President Bush and think he’s a great President, but you’d never be able to tell that he’s had many successes during his Presidency from media reports, and it’s going to take more people to help begin a shift towards revealing the truth to the American people. Rather than going along with the pessimism towards the war, McCain and the Republicans and our military leaders look to the optimistic side. McCain said "Before I left for Iraq, I watched with regret as the House of Representatives voted to deny our troops the support necessary to carry out their new mission. Democratic leaders smiled and cheered as the last votes were counted. What were they celebrating? Defeat? Surrender? In Iraq, only our enemies were cheering." Thank you, Senator McCain.

I thank you for tuning in for this latest edition of the Hawks Press and hope you will continue to tune in and support us. Don’t forget to share us with your friend. 2) History Repeats Itself, Part 2

Greetings my fellow Americans and welcome to another edition of the Hawks Press. If you haven’t tuned in before, I encourage you to download our last (and first full length) podcast. Also, don’t forget you can email us at hawkspress@yahoo.com, h-a-w-k-s-p-r-e-s-s at yahoo dot com.

In case you missed out last week, I talked about a theme that is becoming increasingly more important as General David Petraeus brings us the signs of good progress in Iraq. We constantly hear from the Democratically-controlled congress that there’s no hope for Victory, our troops are ill-prepared and ill-advised and we’re on a course for disaster. Last week, I discussed comparisons that can be made between Iraq and Vietnam, and the theme History Repeats Itself.

Today, I would like to follow up on this theme. My friends, when we look back on History, we see recurring patterns. We see how very different people make very similar mistakes, but we also see how the manner of the later made his mistakes compared to the earlier. By studying History, we can look at the mistakes made during the most critical challenges of the times, such as during the Civil War, the World Wars, Vietnam, and so on, but we shouldn’t stop there. We should look at how to fix these mistakes.

Think way back to the 1860s, during the American Civil War-a true Civil War if there ever was one. The nation was divided into two separate nations and we were in, what many consider, the most profound crisis in American History. General McClellan had started out a very successful general for the Union. His successes in Ohio and West Virginia led to his becoming commander of the Military Division of the Potomac, which he brought A high degree of organization and greatly increased morale among his soldiers. However, McClellan had a weakness.

McClellan failed to attack when openings were available. McClellan was slow and cautious and failed to adapt properly. What happened to George McClellan? He was replaced after failing to pursue the enemy after the bloody battle of Antietam.

With several missed opportunities in the War in Iraq and the Global War on Terror, we can easily compare the replacement of our generals to such instances during the American Civil War. We see that this worked during then, and it just may well work now. The Union won then, and the Union can win now. Lincoln replaced his generals when he saw the need, and Bush has replaced his, seeing an increasing need.

After months of the Democrats demanding the President for a change in leadership, after months of calling for a change in strategy, Bush has done so. It’s hard to tell that from the way the Democrats are talking now, though. They insist there is no new plan, which is a liberal faulty in its own right, and they keep trying to bring the advice and the warnings from the old generals to the President’s attention, despite the fact that they previously portrayed them as incompetent to the American people. Why? Because the political wind is blowing in a new direction and they are on a mandate to end the war.

I ended last week on a very important note. History does not repeat itself so mistakes can be made twice. Mistakes are made to be corrected. And this idea works the other way around, too. Success are achieved, and if we follow historical examples, we can achieve success again.

I believe I speak with America’s best interest at heart when I say we can not accept defeat in Iraq or any other major front on the Global War on Terror. We turned a bunch of unorganized nobodies into a Continental Army that could defeat the mightiest of empires. We overcame the greatest brother versus brother struggle in history. We took on the powerful Japanese fleet and the Third Reich. We won the Cold War against the might Soviet Union. We can defeat Islamo-Fascism.

To succeed, though, we must first have the desire. The Democratic pessimism does not allow for this, regrettably, but we must fight back. The same pessimism brought us defeat in Vietnam, and we can not allow it to overtake us again.

We must fight. We’re not fighting the Care Bares. We’re fighting radical extremists who will stop at nothing to bring bloodshed to the unbelievers. Regardless of what the opposition might say, we need more troops to help clear, regain, and hold the cities of Iraq. We can not stop and rethink about how we might offend people. The ancient Hammurabi Code had one firm statute that some don’t seem to care about anymore: Eye for an Eye. I’m not saying we, too, should resort to hostage taking and beheading, but it’s hard to fight a war if we are fighting with the strict Rules of Engagement we have place on our troops.

Now, I know I’ve strayed off topic, but there are many people who just don’t understand the scope of the conflict we’re in. People want to cry out about Guantanomo Bay because we’re holding known or suspected terrorists in prison cells so they can’t carry out their Jihad against the Western World. But then again, I guess as long as it’s a Democrat that wants to bash Bush, I guess it’s ok.

Remember that you can send us your piffy comments to hawkspress@yahoo.com. We’d love to hear from you. We hope that you continue to listen and will spread the word on to others.

Don Imus...blah blah blah

I guess today's talk is Don Imus' "nappy headed hos" remark and how some black leaders are "offended" and are demanding an apology. I'm not defending (Don Imus) but he has just as much right to say what he wants as Rosie O'Donell or anyone else for that matter. I choose not to listen or watch either one. That is still my right in this country. If people are getting offended so easily, maybe they need to stay home and hide in a closet. People have gotten to be such "thin" skin, it has gone past ridiculous. With everything going on in this country (the world for that matter) that is much more important than what Imus has to say, why is the mainstream media have a "field" day over this. And for all those people that claim to have been offended....I just want to say,"Get over it" or the next time you spew something out of your mouth, be prepared, it may offend someone, and maybe you will catch hell for it and I dare you to play the "double standards" game. That is what makes me sick over all this.
I am anxiously awaiting for Fred Thompson's announcement on his candidacy. He is the modern day "Ronald Reagan", well respected, and with a conservative view I think will appeal to the majority of republicans. Go Fred Go!!

Greetings listeners and welcome to the Hawks Press. Today, I would like to talk about a theme of history that has never been more important for us to understand than now.

History Repeats Itself

When you were in elementary school, you probably asked your history teacher, on several occasions, "Why do we need to know this?" You probably also pointlessly, and incorrectly, added "It's not like we're ever going to use it." If your history teacher never answered your fatuous question, I'll answer it for you with a phrase you may have heard a few times in your life: History Repeats Itself

If you've never understood that or never really paid attention in History class, now has never been a better time to start learning. With the increasing unpopularity to the Iraq War, we find ourselves in the middle of the most challenging crisis of our time...again. Failure to overcome the Anti-America, Anti-Semite, and Anti-Freedom Islamo-Fascist movement could very well be the end of the United States as we know it.

Political shortsightedness is probably the biggest factor that is hurting our chances of winning this war and if it were not for the adamant stubbornness of George W. Bush, the democratically-elected Commander-in-Chief of the United States, and his administration, we probably would have already lost the war. What makes this even worse is that the Democrats are playing politics with this war. Since being kicked out of power, we have witnessed some of the worst ad hominem fallacies in our political history, and there appears to be no end in sight.

Why do I say this war is being played as politics? Because I'm a member of the quote/unquote "Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy"? No. Listen to the statements. Listen to the rhetoric being used. Rather than supporting the troops and giving their commander a chance, the tone the Dems are using portray a message that we should not have ever invaded Iraq, which they voted to authorize, and now we're stuck in an impossible-to-win situation, despite the progress the new U.S. Commander in Iraq, David Petraeus, reports to us. This may not sound too new to our older audience.

Vietnam. Vietnam is often used by both sides of the political spectrum. This goes back to the theme I mentioned earlier: History repeats itself. Comparisons can be made that show some shocking similarities between the Civil War, World War II, Vietnam, and the Iraq War. If our newly elected leaders do anything at all, it had better be to remember history. Those who use defeat in Vietnam as an excuse to leave Iraq are just wrong. Rather than taking a look from the perspective that Iraq is turning into Vietnam, we should take every opportunity to correct the mistakes that we made then so that we CAN now. There were efforts made then that seem to be coming up now. The resolutions being sought after by the Democrats are not too different from those passed during the Vietnam Era. What happened then?

The situation in Vietnam was bad, but securing the independence of South Vietnam wasn't very far out of reach. But no! The war wasn't winnable, the Democratic Congress said. Starting with showing their displeasure to the war, the opposition continued to go through resolution after resolution until "peace with honor” wasn’t possible. They cut off funding, which they are proposing to do now, despite the fact that situation was beginning to turn around and victory was at hand. They ordered all troops back home by 1973, despite the fact that victory was at hand. They cut off all military support to the South Vietnamese, no matter what the reason, despite the fact that victory was at hand. Sound familiar?

Iraq, as the President has admitted, has had some mistakes. But it is not a "debacle". President Bush announced his new plan in January. David Petraeus said he would need until summer of this year to tell if it would work, but he reports signs of significant progress. Violence in Baghdad is down, and the Iraqis are stepping up and taking control...so much for those who say more Americans would lead to the Iraqis becoming more lazy. Yet the House has passed a nonbinding resolution condemning this plan and if this progress continues, politically-speaking the Democrats have made a huge miscalculation and they will not keep that which they have struggled for over a decade to regain. Their continued use of restrictive language isn't helping anyone. If they continue, they WILL create another Vietnam.

Passing a War Spending Bill loaded down with pork and a timeline doesn't help either. Congress knows President Bush is going to veto the bill, yet they continued to press on with it. Why? So the President wouldn't have the funds he needs to keep the well-thought out strategy running its course and to hurt his and the Republican Party's image. So they can win the White House in 2008.

I don't have the time to go into the Civil War and World War II today, so I will continue this next week. But remember, defeat is not imminent. Defeat is not acceptable. Our Congress must remember this. History does not repeat itself so the same mistakes can be made twice. Mistakes are made to be corrected.
